Before You Apply

Eligibility, loan sizes and what to expect
Is Instant Fund a direct lender? +
No. Instant Fund is a free online loan-matching service. We send your single application to a panel of NCR-registered South African lenders. Any final credit agreement is between you and the matched lender.
Does using Instant Fund cost me anything? +
Never. The matching service is 100% free for applicants. Partner lenders pay us a referral fee when they fund an applicant — that's how we keep the lights on. Your loan terms aren't affected.
Who can apply through Instant Fund? +
You need an SA ID, you're 18 or older, you've got regular income, and you bank with a major South African bank. That's it.
Do I need a good credit score? +
Not necessarily. Our partner lenders weigh what you earn and what you spend, not just a credit score. Plenty of applicants with rough credit histories still get matched. Final approval rests with the lender.
Can I apply if I'm self-employed? +
Yes. Send three months of bank statements instead of payslips. The lender panel will work with that.
Can I apply if I receive a SASSA grant? +
If the grant pays out on a regular monthly schedule and you can afford to repay, yes. You'll need to upload proof of the grant.
How much can I be matched for? +
From R500 to R8,000. The matched lender sets the final approved amount based on affordability. First-time applicants usually start lower.
How long can I take to repay? +
Anywhere from one to six months. You request the term you want; the matched lender confirms it in the loan agreement. Shorter terms cost less in total interest.
What's the youngest I can be to apply? +
18, by South African law. NCR-registered lenders cannot fund minors regardless of income.
Is the service available in all nine provinces? +
Yes. If you bank in South Africa and have an SA ID, you can apply from anywhere. Joburg, Cape Town, Polokwane, wherever.

The Application

How it works, what we need, how long it takes
How long does the application take? +
Under 5 minutes if you've got your ID and bank details handy. The matching system surfaces lender offers within minutes; full lender approval usually comes back inside 20 minutes during business hours.
What documents do I need to upload? +
Your SA ID, your last three payslips (or three months of bank statements if self-employed), and proof of an active SA bank account in your name.
Will applying hurt my credit score? +
A soft footprint is recorded when we send your details to the panel — that doesn't affect your score. A full credit check only runs once you accept a specific lender's offer.
Can I apply on my phone? +
Yes. The application form works on any phone, tablet or laptop. Snap photos of your documents and upload them right there.
What hours can I apply? +
The form is open 24/7. Lender approvals and payouts happen weekdays between 8am and 6pm. Applications outside those hours are reviewed first thing the next business day.
I got declined. Can I try again? +
Yes, but wait at least 30 days. Re-applying immediately with no change usually gets the same answer from the panel. If your income or circumstances change, get in touch and we'll re-run the match.

Money & Repayment

Interest, fees, repayments and settling early
How much interest will I pay? +
Each lender sets their own rate within NCA caps. A typical short-term loan is around 5% per month on the loan amount — so an indicative R3,000 over 3 months costs about R450 in interest. Your matched lender's pre-agreement quote shows the exact figure before you sign.
What other fees apply? +
Lenders typically charge a once-off initiation fee (around R100) plus a monthly service fee (around R45 per month), both capped by the NCA. The matched lender discloses the exact figures upfront.
Are there hidden charges? +
No. The NCA forces lenders to itemise every cost in the pre-agreement quote before you sign. The number you agree to is the number you owe — nothing can be added quietly later.
How do I repay? +
By debit order to your matched lender, on a date you choose when signing. The date usually lines up with your payday. Repayment is between you and that lender — Instant Fund doesn't collect anything.
Can I settle the loan early? +
Yes, any time — the NCA guarantees the right and forbids early-settlement penalties. Contact your matched lender for the exact settlement balance.
Is there a penalty for paying early? +
No. NCR-registered lenders cannot legally charge an early-settlement penalty on short-term credit. Pay early, pay less interest.
Can I change my repayment date? +
Usually yes. Most lenders allow one date change per loan if you give at least 3 working days' notice. Contact your matched lender directly — or call 0860 INSTANT and we'll route you.
Will I get a reminder before each debit order? +
Standard practice across our panel is an SMS and email three days before each collection, so there are no surprises on your bank statement.

Payout & Banks

When the money arrives and where it can go
How quickly will the money reach my account? +
Within 60 minutes of you signing the lender's agreement, for most approved loans, provided it's inside business hours (Mon to Fri, 8am to 6pm). Late-afternoon approvals sometimes land first thing the next morning.
Which banks do partner lenders pay out to? +
All the big ones: Capitec, FNB, Standard Bank, Absa, Nedbank, African Bank, TymeBank, Bidvest and Discovery Bank. If your bank's in SA, the panel can likely pay there.
Do I get an SMS when the money's sent? +
Yes. The matched lender sends a confirmation SMS the moment they release payment. Your bank then takes 30 to 60 minutes to reflect it.
Can the money go to a family member's account? +
No. By law, the bank account must be in your own name. This protects you from fraud.
Do lenders pay out on weekends? +
Not currently. SA bank EFT clearing runs business days only. Apply by 4pm Friday for same-week payout.

If Things Go Wrong

Missed payments, cancellations and complaints
What if I can't make a repayment? +
Call your matched lender before the due date — that's the single most important rule. Most lenders will shift the date or arrange a short payment plan. Ignoring it is the only thing that makes it worse. Don't know how to reach them? Call us on 0860 INSTANT and we'll connect you.
What happens if a debit order bounces? +
The lender will usually retry in a few days. If it bounces again, NCA-allowed late fees kick in, and after 30 days unpaid they report to the credit bureaus. Talk to them first to avoid that.
Can I cancel after signing? +
Yes. The NCA gives you 5 business days from signing to cancel any short-term credit agreement, no reason needed. Pay back what the lender sent plus any costs to that date and you're done.
Can my loan be sold to a debt collector? +
Only after a long default and only by NCA rules. NCR-registered lenders far prefer to work it out with you directly. Most loans never get anywhere near that.
How do I file a complaint about the matching service? +
Use our complaints page, or email [email protected]. We'll respond within 5 working days and resolve inside 20.
How do I file a complaint about a lender? +
Raise it with the lender first — every NCR-registered credit provider has a complaints process. If unresolved within 20 business days, escalate to the Credit Ombud at no cost. Their decisions are independent and binding on the lender.
I think someone applied in my name. What do I do? +
Call us right now on 0860 INSTANT. We'll halt the application, alert any panel lenders that received it, and help you report it to the SAFPS fraud register.

Trust & Compliance

Who we are, who regulates us, how we protect you
Is Instant Fund a lender? +
No. Instant Fund is a free online loan-matching service. We don't lend money or make credit decisions. We connect you to a panel of NCR-registered third-party lenders who do.
Are the lenders on your panel legitimate? +
Yes. Every lender on our panel is registered with the National Credit Regulator (NCR) under the National Credit Act. You can verify any of them on the NCR public register at ncr.org.za.
Where is Instant Fund based? +
Our head office is in Sandton, Johannesburg. We're South African-owned and have been running the matching service since 2018.
Is my personal information safe? +
Your data travels over 256-bit SSL, sits on SA-based servers, and is handled per POPIA. We only share it with panel lenders considering your application. We don't sell it. Ever.
Will my info be shared with credit bureaus? +
Yes — once you accept a lender offer, that lender (like every NCR-registered credit provider) reports payment behaviour to the major SA credit bureaus. Paying on time helps your credit profile.
Are the interest rates within legal limits? +
Yes. Every lender on the panel is bound by the NCA caps on interest and fees for short-term credit. The pre-agreement quote you sign will show the exact figures.
Who regulates the lenders? +
The National Credit Regulator (NCR) regulates all our partner lenders. For unresolved lender complaints, the Credit Ombud is the next step. For data issues, the Information Regulator handles POPIA.
